Values

The Gospel

The message of Jesus and about Jesus is central to everything we do.  Without it we have nothing more than a philosophy, a support group or a social club.  We will learn from it, meditate on in, and be passionate about sharing it, because we know what it has done for us.

Creative Worship

Worship without passion is not worship at all.  We endeavour to encourage creative, artistic and participatory worship, worship that is centered on God, worship that borrows from the old and the new, but is always performed with fresh vitality.  We explore, experiment, create, share and engage.  This pleases God, and refreshes our soul.

Authenticity

We have a faith that is real, and not one that we need to convince ourselves is real.  We reject pretense, lofty ideas and alienative subcultures that project a plastic, unattainable fantasy.  And we embrace life, complete with all of its joys, pains, ups and downs, stuggles and successes.  We take the good with the shite.  And we share this journey together.

“Communitas” (wikipedia)

Life is not meant to be lived alone.  More than just meeting together, we choose to work towards experiencing life together.  To walk with each other, to share our lives, our burdens, ours joys and sadness.  To share our posessions (ideologically).  To share meals; breaking bread and drinking together.  To embrace equality.  To celebrate both diversity and common interest.  To frequently show love and forgiveness.  To achieve this is a journey in itself - it takes time, trust and discomfort.

Individuality

In God himself we see the paradox of three and one.  Indivisible yet divisible.  We see this dualism reflected in His Church.  While we journey towards solidarity, we defend the right of the individual.  We refuse to abdicate personal responsibility to the whole, but instead we each ‘take up our cross’.  God intensly and personally loves, favours and chooses each and every one of us, and purposefully entrusts us with gifts, talents and ideas to share.  In this way, we do not see the humble expression of the individual as narcissistic or boastful, but rather as God-honouring.

Social Responsibility

And we refuse to become self absorbed, as individuals or as a community.  We have a God-given responsibility towards the world in which we live.  In Jesus’ footfall, we fight against injustice, we give to those who lack (even out of our own), and we identify with the marginalised.  We reject consumerism as destructive,  and we adopt lifestyles that will be beneficial not only to ourselves but those we share life with, and the environment that sustains us all.

  1. Hey Matt,

Great catching up with you yesterday!
These values are great. Nothing can inspire me more when I read something that I feel God has penned.

Communities are elastic, nomadic, disjointed, unpredictable but God is forever constant, forever present and forever moulding.

I pray that he blesses these writings and this movement and stir’s up a community of believers and non believers in Port Phillip that would come together to worship God in an authentic passion.

Take Care bud, be in touch soon

    John

  2. Funny enough, i found this website
while searching for a church in Melbourne:)
and I guess all what you write over here.. somehow resonates with me:)
I mean the Gospel..and the thirst to be like Jesus and to live a life pleasing God,
worship that is not limited by the “should” and “shouldnts” but is an expression of who we are before God..authenticity and being real with all our faults and sins..something that is truely hard to find in a ‘traditional’ kind of church:)and community…this speaks for itself..I cant even express how much I desire to share my life with others who love God, and be able to be who i was created to be, have coffee eat meals etc.
anyways, would love to hear/meet you guys…if you meet somewhere apart from online.
    looking forward.
